Michelle Reimer

Background

Originally from the greater Los Angeles area, I moved to Northern California in 2011 for college. I love our students at Encinal and I think going to work on an island every day is awesome. Because I did not particularly enjoy school until college, when I fell madly in love with it, I believe that learning should be fun and that there is often great satisfaction to be found in a challenge. I seek to motivate my students to become lifelong learners and to push themselves to discover the many incredible things they’re capable of. I live in Oakland, and in my free time, I like to read, write, cook, garden, listen to music, practice yoga, ride my bike, and hang out with my friends.

Teaching/Educational Philosophy

“There are very few gardeners among human beings, and consequently most of the more difficult human plants are all in wrong places, suffering drought, or heat, or dampness, when if only a noticing, intuitive hand could move among them they might all flourish as they were meant to do.” - Katharine Butler Hathaway
